Marrying a Non-Believer, What Does the Bible Say?: At Last – TRUTH!: Hebraic Perspective (PDF Download – 19 A5 pages)

This verse is one of those many unexplained verses from the Bible, especially from a Hebraic context:

“To the rest I say (I, not the Lord) that if any brother has a wife who is an unbeliever, and she consents to live with him, he should not divorce her. If any woman has a husband who is an unbeliever, and he consents to live with her, she should not divorce him. For the unbelieving husband is made holy because of his wife, and the unbelieving wife is made holy because of her husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy.” (1 Cor 7:12-14 ESV)

Is it a sin to marry someone who is not a Believer (a Christian)?

There are many Believers in dire straits seeking answers to tormenting questions such as, may I marry an unbeliever, or what do I do when I am married to an unbeliever?

The research of Old Testament and New Testament examples of "unbeliever partner" marriages helps to define the contours of what makes a marriage between people of two faiths tolerable, or else God would not allow it, as will be proven to you. It is NOT AT ALL DESIRED, but it is allowed and not a sin as many pastors wrongfully teach.

Although God made a special covenant with Abraham and his descendants, pagan people of foreign descent could find acceptance in the Israelite community.

As God-fearers, these pagan Gentiles participated in the religious life of Israel and enjoyed the blessings of the Abrahamic Covenant. Furthermore, they could reside within Israel without any stigma attached to them (i.e. Rahab, a vivid example) and become Israelites in every sense of the word (i.e. Ruth).

Moreover, God defended Moses’ second wife, a Cushite, when Miriam despised her because of her foreign ancestry. Moses married her when he was young and escaping Pharaoh to Cush before returning to Egypt at age 80 years old. Unlike his righteous first wife Zipporah, his Cushite wife never embraced the faith of Moses, yet God protected her aggressively.
